1st May 2002 - May Day Bells Heard!

Today at noon, the May Day bells sounded. They lasted for about 15 seconds where melodious music was heard all over Singapore. Said a passerby: "I was frightened. May Day has an extremely lousy track record. Riots, death, it is all negative stuff. When I heard the bells, I feared that something bad might have happened. I thought I was dead and was in heaven." A man was frightened dead all right. Mr Yew Knew Oo suffered from a cardio seizure after hearing the loud bells. He was 80 when the bells sounded today. Sent to the Sure Giveup Hope (SGH) hospital, he passed away 2 hours after being admitted to hospital. Commented a lady: "Aiyah, wat so scary? Wa heard many times already! Every monthly will be playing same thing at noon! First day of every monthly will be playing this sound!" Well, the heavenly sound might have been the angels in heaven telling us that a new month has arrived, or it might have been some people trying to be funny. Whatever it is, it will definitely haunt us again next month.
