20th May 2002 - Paper Conservation Project
People in Singapore are actively encouraged to recycle paper. Paper is a good and important resource, we use paper in all parts of our lives. But have we actually considered that we are destroying the environment in the process? Many people from the Crap Society has raised this social issue and it is discussed that until a new form of paper is found, all we can do is watch the trees get destroyed one by one. However, they say, although the trees will be destroyed, we CAN, we CAN slow down the process by using less paper. How do we use less paper? The kind souls form Crap Society have come up with the following ingenious ideas:
1. Split two ply toilet paper into two and roll each individual ply up. That way, you will have two rolls of toilet paper.
2. Do the same to tissue paper.
3. Use more correction tape.
4. Get ideas. Do not write and realise what you have written is crap.
5. Do not throw away old bills. Use the otherside.
6. Do not make paper bullets to shoot each other.
Meanwhile, the researchers at Crap Foundation are trying to make paper with the about-to-be-phased-out magnetic farecards. They have not been successful thus far but nevertheless are trying hard.
