22nd May 2002 - Ez Cheaters (Opinion)
This is the first time I am writing about a social concern. This is crap!web, the place for anything and everything under the sun. Anyway...
Ez Link. You have heard about it. You have seen posters about it. You have seen advertisments about it. You know what it is about.
Extra convenience? A little. But still not enough.
One of the main reasons why the Ez Link system was implemented was to prevent people from cheating on bus fares. Fair enough. Millions of dollars to save costs. Not only millions of dollars. Millions of people are affected because of this drastic "improvement".
Have they saved costs? Hardly. Why?
On buses, people can just tap their cards on the entry gantries and proceed to the back of the bus. Before their stop reaches, they can tap their cards on the gantries in advance, sometimes even 2 or 3 stops in advance, just to pay less money. Singaporeans are highly adaptive, that's what the government needs to realize.
So therefore Singaporeans have again showed their talents in outsmarting a multi-million dollar project.
